One thing that stuck with me after watching "Facing the Giants" was this scene where the pastor, who was praying over the school's students, encourages the coach with a story. The moral of the story was basically, "pray for rain and then carry an umbrella."
I had to mull it over a bit, and even watch the scene a second time. I pray for a lot of things, but I don't necessarily believe in their outcome so much that I plan for it. I think that's what Candice is encouraging us to do... plan for marriage and prepare for it while you're waiting.
The idea came up again for me recently in the first couple chapters of "Visioneering" by Andy Stanley. His point was along the lines of, identify your vision, and then make a plan. He explained that some people get a vision of where they need to go or what they need to do and they jump in head first, but they should have taken the time to plan. Nehemiah had to plan for a few months, Moses was in a holding pattern for 40 years...
I am reading "Visioneering" to figure out what my God-given vision is, and where it might be taking me - and now I know, that I'll need to be planning for it. And as I was reading I realized that's what Candice was talking about too in "Get Married". Plan, plan, plan... it's ringing in my ears in the areas of vocation (vision), to marriage, to finances, and so many other things.
